Politics Smolitics

Sheeeish . . . back to Mommy blogging for me. Didn’t mean to cause such a stir.

I had my days of controversy in college and before I was married. Between being a card carrying member of Green Peace, Amnesty International and the Democratic Party (and born-again), well I’ve had more than enough of my fair share of debates and being called names unmentionable here. I hung that hat up long ago.

I feel no need to convince others of my personal opinions—if you’re uninformed, let me direct you to the Fox News Channel, The Drudge Report
and Michelle Malkin. And if you really want to have a good time, tune into three hours of Rush each day. (If you download him onto your ipod, you can listen commercial free!)

For the record, there are several Democrats (okay maybe only a few) I greatly admire and would get my vote in a heartbeat were they in my district. But I also am so saddened by the way the Democratic Party has seemingly lost it’s way. Most people don’t even realize how many Democrats in office have switched over the years from being pro-life to pro-choice . . . following the party instead of their convictions.

I am saddened about the election results because I love President Bush—personally I feel deeply indebted to this man of morals, principles and courage. My children and their children are indebted too. I greatly admire him for the tenacious way he is holding the line in the war on terror. I think he could be far more effective in the next two years if he had the House and Senate voting with him.

I am so deeply thankful for our men and women in uniform and am saddened to see Rummy go. He is a hero to me as well.

So let the comments roll. This is your last chance as this is my LAST post dealing with anything remotely resembling politics . . . and you don’t even want to get me started on the media! That would be ugly.

I enjoy a good debate now and again unless of course it is with your husband. :-)

I tend to agree with you 100%--I knew there were many reasons why I like you. :-) (Okay that last sentence sounded a lot like something RL would say)

I am proud of you stepping into the political fray...and understand wanting to go back into mommy blogging...by the way, I love the picture and think you look like a blonde version of Michelle Malkin in it.

Now I am about to go off and if anyone has a problem, you can come find me on my blog...it is important for everyone to be informed...a party is not the right or wrong, but unfortunately, despite what Obama wants says America is divided...there is a difference is what we as people want reality to be and what it really is. Christians have hope in our hearts, but that does not mean we are excused from being informed in our minds. Forget CNN and forget Fox News - look at the facts...the leadership of the minority party: Nancy Pelosi - if you have time to blog, you have time Google. Alcee Hastings - one of the top 5 in the House Democrats impeached in 1989 for corruption and perjury. Democrat from my home state of Mississippi, Bennie Thompson is about to be the chairman of the House Committee for Homeland Security and instead of being proud, I am disgusted at his leadership abilities and I shudder to think of the security of our nation. William Jefferson, the Representative from New Orleans, who during Hurrican Katrina had the National Guard escort him to his house so he could retrieve his valuable while his constituents suffered...that is the party who just took control...

Now, move on to the issues. Gay marriage. It was on the ballots in 04 and all the states that votes on it rejected it. This year 7 of 8 rejected it. How about Missouri and stem cell research...51% to 49% - Talent was a good Senator. Why did he lose his seat? Because the issue was stem cell research and to be more specific it was EMBRYONIC stem cell research and according to exit polls, most voters did not even read the proposed amendment...South Dakota...Abortiona ban failed...So while it may seem like party lines don't matter, they do because it affects leadership, committees, legislatations, judges. While the elections were going on the Supreme Court heard arguments on Partial Birth abortion bans...for those of you who are unaware, those are carried out during the final trimester where the baby's skull is crushed by the doctor...so next time you think maybe it doesn't matter whether your are a Republican or Democrat, maybe you should research how they tend to vote and vote for they way you want your vote to count...

one last comment before my polictical passion is laid to rest for a good year or so. Beth let me say first of all i deeply respect you and your husband both. What you sacrifice so that Dave can do his work is amazing and i love reading your blog. My sister and i were talking last night about the pro-life, pro-choice issue. I get really distraught by people who vote only on that issue esspecially because if a person is pro-life that means they should be pro-life in all areas. For example i don't understand why the repulican party or people who are pro-life are also pro-death penalty and pro-war which destroys life. I feel that if a person calls themselves pro-life, that should be pro-life across the board. In my eyes, the preservaiton of life should not be only for the unborn.

Its great how we can disagree on every issue that has been bought up and yet because of knowing you, your family and the fact that we both know Jesus, i respect you deeply. If you don't remember me--i babysat for you when beth and alicia were busy the 2004-2005 intern year. I live in Seattle WA now, which i am sure rings off the typical reaction that i am being corrupted by liberal morality or lack their of. It's true my views on politics and faith have changed dramatically since i moved here. But you know it wasn't for corruption. It was actually here, after the internship that i finally let God have control of my life and my heart. I hope you are blessed today and thanks for all the postings.

I can explain why I am pro-life and pro-death penalty...from a moral view point and a legal view point. Morally, I believe that a baby is innocent and pure and represents the good that God intended for mankind, perfect in His image, while the dealth penalty is usually for thw worst or mankind with few exceptions...from a legal view, I believe that the law was intended to protect the rights of minorities and I believe that because life begins at conception that fetuses are a protected class of citizens deserving protection under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution thereby making abortion murder...now the argument for the death penalty is that it part of the criminal system for people where reform seems impossible...I mean it isn't like we put to death 7 year who has sticky fingers for gum...or even meth dealers who distrubutes 5 pounds of it to kids. Also, abotion is a result of someone else's action while the death penalty is for your own actions. So, that is why I am against abortion and for the death penalty. Oh, and I don't support war, I just find it inevitable, so I would rather be on the offensive than on the defensive...

wow... Ihad no idea it got so heated... but worth the debate, I think...
Like, Michelle, I agree with you 100%... and Lily...great points! I like it when someone can put my thoughts into words. Thank you!

Hi Lily thanks for all the viewpoints. I feel like they were all directed to me as you talked about Obama, who i love and talked about on my site, the two party system which i have talked about here and on my site, and the abortion issue. I don't view this as a heated debate but rather i am trying to just throw my ideas out there and challenge people. I at nearly all times feel viewed as a bad christian or someone who isn't living the Godly life for many of the more liberal viewpoints i have both in faith and politics. Its hard trying to convince people that i passionatly love Jesus even though i am not a republican, don't like war, care about global warming and don't vote based on the issues primarily of aborition and gay marriage. I usually look at poverty issues, environmental issues and education issues. along with how someone runs their campaign. I think it speaks greatly of character and the persons heart. I really like Jim Wallace if you have ever heard of him. He verbalized a lot better what i hold to be true in his book God's Politics and his magazine Sojorners. Call me a liberal, a hippy, a freak who doesn't know the truth and will come around with age. But i really think that a lot of things i am passionate about in the religous and political fields are things which Jesus would support himself.

Like M. Franzen, I enjoy a good debate now and again. But unlike, M Franzen, I really do like a good debate with your husband:-) That was one of my favorite things about working for him - a good argument :-)

Lily- I love the way you articulated your viewpoints!

Way to play ball! Her dad must be SO proud! We miss you all and look forward to seeing y'all in about 3 weeks. Check in with Kelly and Lisa on the Christmas gift ideas.

I'm actually a bit worried about the election results... Living overseas at the mercy of the government it doesn't make us rest at ease to be put in the hands of those who are not always for us. As far as Rumsfeld is concerned... I'm sad to see him go. I hate hearing people on the news speaking for the troops on this matter. One lady was saying how the troops are so excited to see him go. Frankly that is not the truth. Sure there may be some who agree, but we all know the people who say "go... shoot..." and so forth are not President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld. I was reading the front of the Stars and Stripes today (military paper) and it stated how the troops don't see Rumsfeld leaving changing anything. I agree! He was only one voice and there are many between him and the men and women on the ground.

BETH!! I completely remember you! Did I tell you that already? I have very fond memories of laughter and laughter and great great times with TM.

Steph, I don't know who you are, but I agree on the pro-life all the way. As an adopted child, pro-life is absoltuely huge to me, but we have a responsiblity to provide LIFE. What about the environment? And I am NOT a tree-hugger - yet I find it disturbing that politics paints pictures.

Having been a tour guide for 10 years in DC for a very strong conservative Chrsitian company, I can say that I love history and government and hate politics.

I am most certainly NOT excited about Nancy Pelosi - I'm about as big a fan of her as Barbara Boxer or Hillary Clinton. However, as much as I lvoe Condi Rice, rumour has it that she's pro-choice.

Ok - I'm done.

Ginger - isn't Rosamunde Pilcher great? And have you read Maeve Binchy?
