Are You Smarter Than A Sixth Grader?

Maybe it’s because I went to a government school . . . or maybe it’s just because I didn’t pay attention much, but lately when I look over Ashley’s school work, I realize I my little sixth grader is WAY smarter than me.

These questions are just a sampling of some recent ones I found in Ashley’s backpack. I DOUBLE DOG DARE you to take my little test . . . and post your results. Just for the record, I missed them all.

1. What is the diameter of the earth?

2. What is the circumference of the earth?

3. What people gave the alphabet to the world?

4. What is the fastest land animal on earth?

5. What is the only mammal that can fly?

6. The Persian Empire was conquered by what people?

Jot down your answers before you click on the comment button because I’ll have the answers posted there.

P.S. It is totally not fair to google and get your answers.

-i knew the phoenicians (i think that's why we call it "phonetic")
-i knew the cheetah
-i knew the bat/mammal

that's it...yeah, i'm definitely not smarter than a sixth grader. but can she change a diaper in 3.2 seconds?

I only got #4 correct. How sad.

I only knew #4, don't ask me how. I'm sure Jenna taught it to me when she was in the 6th grade.

Not only am I NOT smarter than a 6th grader, but I've had three kids more than ready to remind me of that fact.

Beautiful new profile picture Beth! Love your hair. Actually, just simply love you :)

I got them all wrong... I was pretty close on #4, but I guess that doesn't really count :) I wonder why we needed to learn all those things, and be tested on them, in the first place when we have never really needed to know them since. Maybe so we could win at Trivial Pursuit.

Okay, so I didn't even have a guess on some of those! I'm with the other commenters--I just knew the cheetah one! :)

Your new profile picture is really pretty, Beth!

You lost me at diameter and circumference! J/K I didn't know ANY of the answers. We watch that show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" and realize we not the least bit smarter by watching it. I just get frustrated. As to your comment on my blog, I don't view them as talents. Its just something I enjoy doing!!!! I love your new profile pic! GEORGEOUS!!!!

I knew one. Cheetah. I was pretty confident before, but now I know for sure that I am not smarter than a sixth grader.

This was fun! I knew all of them except I was off by 7,000 miles on the circumference. The only way I knew that many was because we home school! When you home school, you go over these things every other year or so. Otherwise, I wouldn't know most of them.

Yeah, I got 4 of them, but I just have a weird knack for remembering numbers for some reason, and I knew the cheetah and Phoenicians...

I'm not even smarter than a 5th grader. Matt had to remind me how to do long division the other day. I knew Cheetah and bats. Yes, I be a college graduate : )

BTW -- gorgeous picture of Ashley.

Well, I knew about the cheetah. That's it. Doh! But that is the way our educational system is changing. There's no way we can remember all those facts and don't really need to. (Don't mind me. I'm taking a class about all of this right now). We just need to know how we can get ahold of accurate information when it's necessary. Hmmm... something to think about.

I AM not smarter than a 6th grader.
I knew only the bat/mammal one.

BTW - my Merry is back in Texas; right in your backyard in Lindale.
She's at YWAM Woodcrest and is living with Brooke on Fruitdale.
We are so proud of her, but my momma-heart is broken.

Please watch over her for me, ok?
Thanks!
